What are Decimals

A decimal is a type of number that goes between integers by a certain amount. 2 is an integer. 3 is an integer. And 2.436 is a decimal between them by a certain amount. The numbers on the right side of the decimal point describe where in between the two integers the decimal is.

Decimals can go on forever. Each new number to the right would have a name like ten thousandths place, hundred thousandths place, millionth place, etc.
